Phenex is an innovative company that develops novel proprietary small molecule drugs targeting nuclear receptors. Phenex´ most advanced drug candidate Px-101 targets the nuclear receptor FXR for the treatment of Type II Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome. Unlike other available anti-diabetic medicines or drugs in development, Phenex FXR agonist Px-101 addresses the root of the disease. Px-101 has not only glucose lowering and insulin sensitizing properties but exerts strong lipid lowering in several animal models of metabolic diseases, thereby opening up a new therapeutic avenue in the fight against the global pandemia of Metabolic Syndrome and Type II Diabetes.

Px-101 is scheduled to go into Phase I clinical development by early 2010.

Beyond its proprietary drug discovery programs the company has assembled a powerful toolbox for research on Nuclear Receptors. Phenex offers these assets on a fee-for-service basis to the biopharmaceutical industry under its Discovery Services unit
